Have you ever had a computer problem where you work very hard at something but your computer breaks down or fails to save your work? I still remember a time when I was in college, I spent days working on a final research paper. For some reason, just when I was proofreading my work on my computer, something terrible happened and I lost everything! I was so angry at my computer and scared that I wouldn't have time to redo this paper. After wasting a few hours crying, I started it again, stayed up all night, and managed to finish it. At that time it was a very serious and big problem. It was a MAJOR problem. But now when I think back, it was not as serious as I had thought. It was quite MINOR compared to many other things in life.

Can you guess the meaning of MAJOR and MINOR? It distinguishes something between serious or less serious, important or less important.
Difference between major and minor, The English Student
Let's talk about MAJOR and MINOR as adjectives. Place it in front of nouns to describe whether something is serious or not so serious.

Every month I try to make something easy, healthy, and delicious so that we can all cook and learn new English words together. This month is the Strawberry Avocado Toast. It tastes as delicious as it looks!

My brother-in-law (my husband's younger brother) lives on a beautiful island in Washington State called Whidbey Island. Last weekend, my husband and I took a drive from Seattle to visit him, his wife and meet their newborn baby, Mario (he is so adorable!). They have a beautiful garden with lots of vegetables, fruits, and chickens! We got a bag of delicious produce from them. If you follow me on Instagram, you would have probably seen it! Since we had some strawberries from his garden, I decided to make this super easy Strawberry Avocado Toast recipe. Follow this recipe and learn seven new verbs.

recently discovered this practical podcast for English learners, called Culips ESL Podcast. You can find them on iTunes or download an App such as Stitcher. Although I'm not an English learner, I love listening to their show because they talk about everyday topics in the form of natural speech. A lot of what they talk about is relevant, engaging, and useful. Their website also includes some additional help on each episode.

Their most recent episode, Don't Front, teaches you several ways to talk about people who are fake or inauthentic (someone pretending to be something they're not). I'm sure we all know one or two people like that in our lives!

I've always talked about listening to natural speech in order to improve English and this is a great podcast whether you're a beginner or advanced learner. I absolutely recommend this!

In the picture above you can tell these friends are not having a great lunch togethe

If you're boring, it describes what you're like as person. Someone who is not interesting to be with or talk to. I would never want anyone to say I'm a boring person! That would be a bad quality to have! As the actress Marilyn Monroe once said, "It's better to be absolutely ridiculous than to be absolutely boring." I agree with that!
The difference between bored and boring as participial adjectives
In the picture above you can tell these friends are not having a great lunch together. The woman on the left is feeling bored. The woman on the right thinks her friend is a boring person (not interesting to be with). Can you distinguish the difference now?

You'll notice the negative (-) answers use auxiliary verbs in contraction form (it is = it's / I am= I'm). Of course, it's not always necessary. You can also say, " No, it is not" but it's much more common in spoken English to use these contractions.

If you would like to learn about auxiliary verbs in contractions, please view this previous lesson.

Every sentence needs a verb, whether an action verb, helping verb, or linking verb. Verbs are one of the most important parts of any sentence because it can show an action or state. It's basically what a sentence is all about!

In this comic, you'll see lots of AUXILIARY VERBS, also known as HELPING VERBS. These verbs provide extra information about a subject.

Have you ever heard anyone say learning English is a waste of time? No! At least I've never and if someone ever says that to me, I'm ready to refute that! No matter how old you are or where you are in life, learning English is always a good idea. Most importantly learning is not just one-way but it's a collaborative effort. You learn from me, I learn from you, you may learn from other English learners and benefit from their questions. So stay motivated and help each other learn! - See more at: http://msnhantoeic.com/
